Regrooving

WHY REGROOVE

Regrooving is an operation undertaken to enable tyres to run further. Regrooving consists of recutting the tread pattern when its depth reaches reaches a maximum of 3-4mm.

All KORMORAN Truck tyres are regroovable.

HOW TO REGROOVE

This operation must be undertaken by a professional who will check the tyre to ensure it is in good condition. There is a regrooving plan for each tread pattern.

Carry out regrooving when there is still 3-4mm of tread pattern. Regulate the regrooving depth so as to always retain a thickness of 2-3mm between the base of the new tread pattern and the crown plies.

A: base of tread pattern.
B: thickness of rubber to be regrooved.
C: regrooved tread profile.
D: thickness of rubber to be retained, at least 2 mm.
E: available rubber.

TOOLS

Use only rounded blades of type R. Observe the blade reference (R3, R4 etc.) indicated for each tread pattern.

PRECAUTIONS

Do not regroove deeper than the recommended depth.

Regrooving that is too deep can:

  • Expose the reinforcing structure of the tyre, rendering it non compliant with local legislation.
  • Damage the tyre structure and result in degradation of the tyre.
  • Compromise retreading.
  • Cause oxidation of the casing leading to failure whilst in service.
